Yin Yoga is a special type of yoga where you hold each pose for 1 to 5 minutes.

The point of holding the pose for so long is to apply gentle stress to the connective tissues of the body – fascia, tendons and ligaments – with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improve flexibility.
Most yin yoga poses are done laying down and can be very relaxing. The biggest challenge is switching off your mind. The overall aim of a yin yoga class is to cultivate awareness of inner silence and increase flexibility.
Yin yoga is the perfect balance to the usual fast paced ‘yang’ yoga practiced. It allows you to slow down, it’s a moving meditation. There is no alignment in yin yoga either, so as long as you are feeling a stretch then that’s all that matters.
